چکیده
Flavobacterium meningosepticum is a gram negative, opportunistic organism which has been implicated in a number of outbreaks of sepsis and meningitis in newborn nurseries. The infection is usually associated with a very high mortality. F. meningosepticum is usually resistant to most of the commonly used antibiotics and successful therapy has posed problems. We present a case report of F. meningosepticum meningitis caused by a multiply drug resistant strain of the organism.

In vitro antibiotic synergy against Flavobacterium meningosepticum: implications for therapeutic options.
Flavobacterium meningosepticum is an unusual, highly resistant, gram-negative bacillus that is associated with neonatal meningitis and nursery outbreaks of meningitis. The optimal therapy for this infection is not known. We successfully treated three neonates with intravenous vancomycin and rifampin. We determined the in vitro activity of meropenem, ciprofloxacin, vancomycin, linezolid (PNU-100...

Elizabethkingia meningoseptica, formerly Chryseobacterium meningosepticum usually causes neonatal meningitis and is a rare cause of nosocomial meningitis in adults. E. meningoseptica is resistant to most antibiotics, and the use of inactive drugs as empirical therapy may contribute to poor outcome in many patients. Vancomycin, alone or in combination with rifampicin, has been successful in the ...
متن کاملNeonatal meningitis caused by Flavobacterium meningosepticum type F.
Two infants, one premature and one full-term, died from meningitis due to Flav. meningosepticum type F. Careful bacteriological studies are required to prevent possible confusion with other Gram-negative bacilli which may cause meningitis in this age group.

Chrysobacterium meningosepticum (Flavobacterium meningosepticum) is a known cause of meningitis in premature and newborn infants. Infection due to this organism in adults is uncommon. We report 5 cases of Chrysobacterium meningosepticum in adult patients. Most of these patients were elderly and had underlying co-morbidities.

Ceftizoxime, a new cephalosporin, was active against Pseudomonas cepacia, Flavobacterium meningosepticum, Alcaligenes faecalis, and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus and was more potent against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas putida than was carbenicillin.
